How we try to keep Teeny safe

Every organisation account starts out Pending when it signs up. Our team can then review the details they've given us — organisation name, contact person, work email, phone, website, organisation type, and a registration or NPO number where that applies — and move the account to one of three states:

An organisation is never able to verify or suspend itself — that's always a decision made by our team, based on what they've told us and anything raised through reports.

Separately from organisation verification, every individual listing goes through its own review before it's visible to anyone:

• New listings start as Pending and aren't public yet.
• Our team reviews the details — title, organisation, description and duties, location, paid/unpaid status, hours, and opportunity type — before approving it.
• If a listing is turned down, the organisation is always given a reason, and they can update the listing and resubmit it.
• If an already-approved listing is edited in a way that materially changes it, it goes back to Pending and needs to be re-approved before it's public again.
• A listing from a suspended organisation can't be approved, and stops being publicly visible even if it was approved earlier.

Listing owners and admins can always preview their own pending (or otherwise not-yet-public) listings — everyone else only ever sees listings that have been approved.

If something about a listing doesn't feel right, you can report it directly from the listing page — look for "Report a concern" in the sidebar. You'll need to be logged in, and you can choose from a few common reasons:

• Misleading information
• Suspicious / scam
• Inappropriate behaviour
• Unsafe opportunity
• Discrimination
• Payment / request for money
• Privacy concern
• Other

You can add extra detail if you want to, but it's optional. Reports go straight to our team, not to the organisation, and we review them — where needed, that can mean rejecting a listing or suspending the organisation behind it.

If you're ever in immediate danger, please contact local emergency services first — reporting to us helps us review a listing, but it isn't a substitute for emergency help.

A few habits that go a long way, whether it's your first opportunity or your fifth:

• Read the listing's commitment duration, required days, and any stated eligibility or requirements carefully before you apply — if anything's unclear, ask before you commit to anything.
• A genuine opportunity should never ask you to pay money, provide banking details, or "pay to secure a spot" — treat any request for payment as a red flag and report it.
• Be cautious about sharing personal documents (like your ID) before you've had a real conversation with the organisation.
• For an in-person opportunity, especially a first meeting, consider telling someone you trust where you're going and when you expect to be back.
• Trust your instincts — if something about a listing or a conversation feels off, it's okay to step back and report it.
