Privacy Policy

Draft — last updated 25 August 2026

This is a draft, plain-language policy, not a finished legal document. It's written to honestly describe what Teeny actually does today, in the beta. It has not yet been reviewed by a qualified South African legal or privacy professional (including for POPIA — the Protection of Personal Information Act), and it should be before Teeny is launched publicly at scale. Nothing here should be read as a legal guarantee.

Teeny connects young people (job seekers and volunteers) with organisations posting jobs and volunteering opportunities, currently in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape, plus remote opportunities. This page explains what personal information we collect to make that work, why, and what you can do about it.

We follow a simple principle: we only ask for what Teeny genuinely needs to function. If a field isn't required to create your account, connect you with an opportunity, or keep the platform safe, we don't ask for it. For example, we don't ask for your ID number, banking details, or full date of birth — only your age, and only to confirm you meet the beta's 18+ requirement.

1. What information we collect

Account & profile information (everyone)

To create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password (which we store as a secure hash — see Security below, we never store your actual password). You also tell us whether you're signing up as a job seeker or an organisation.

As a job seeker, you can optionally add a location, a short bio, a profile picture, your age (required — used only to confirm you're 18 or older), education level, current status, interests, skills, availability, commitment preferences, preferred opportunity types, and transport details. All of this is optional beyond age, and only used to help match you with relevant opportunities and to give organisations context if you apply.

As an organisation, we collect your organisation name, a contact person, a work email and phone number, your organisation type, your website (optional), and — only where it's relevant, such as for an NPO — a registration number. This is used to review and, where appropriate, verify your organisation. We don't currently collect proof-of-registration documents through the platform itself.

Application information

When a job seeker applies to a listing, we store which listing you applied to, your confirmation that you can meet any stated commitment requirements, and your short written answers about why you're interested and why the organisation can rely on you. We also track the application's status (for example, Submitted, Viewed, Shortlisted) so both you and the organisation can see where things stand.

Uploaded profile images

If you choose to upload a profile picture, we check that it's a real image file, within a size limit, before storing it. We don't currently accept CV or document uploads — that part of the product isn't built yet, so please don't send us a CV through Teeny.

Reports

If you report a listing, we store the reason you selected, any optional explanation you add, who filed it, and when. Our team's internal review notes on a report are never shown to the person who filed it or to the organisation involved.

Information we do not collect

  • Government ID or passport numbers
  • Banking details or payment information (Teeny doesn't process payments between job seekers and organisations)
  • Full date of birth (only age)
  • Location tracking or device-level tracking beyond what's needed to run the site

2. Why we collect it

  • Name, email, password — to create and secure your account, and let you log back in.
  • Age — solely to enforce that job seeker accounts on the beta are 18 and older. It's never shown publicly, and organisations only see it if you apply to their listing.
  • Job seeker profile details — to help you find relevant opportunities, and to give an organisation useful context if you choose to apply.
  • Organisation details — to review organisations, decide whether to mark one as Verified, and to give job seekers a way to judge legitimacy.
  • Application answers — so an organisation can fairly assess whether you're a good fit for their opportunity.
  • Reports — so our team can look into concerns and, where needed, act on a listing or an organisation.

3. How applicant information is shared with organisations

When you apply to a listing, the organisation that posted it can see your profile details relevant to that application — your name, email, and the profile information you've chosen to fill in (location, age, education, bio, interests, skills, availability, and your written application answers).

This is only visible to the organisation you applied to, only for that specific application, and is never shown to any other organisation or made public. We don't sell applicant information, and we don't share it with anyone outside the normal operation of matching you with the opportunities you've chosen to apply for.

An organisation's own profile details (organisation name, contact person, work email, phone, website, type, and registration number) work the other way — they're visible to job seekers considering that organisation's listings, since that's the whole point of publishing a listing.

4. How long we keep information, and deletion

We keep your account and profile information for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll remove or anonymise your personal information where we reasonably can.

There are a few things we may need to keep in a limited form even after a deletion request — for example, if you're the subject of an open report, or if keeping a minimal record helps us prevent abuse of the platform. Exactly how long, and in what form, is one of the specific points that needs proper legal input before launch — this section is intentionally a placeholder for that reason.

5. Security

We take reasonable, practical steps to protect your information — passwords are stored as secure hashes rather than plain text, uploaded files are checked before being stored, and access to sensitive internal information (like an organisation's verification history, or a report's internal notes) is limited to admins.

That said, no online platform can guarantee perfect security, and we won't claim otherwise. If we ever become aware of an incident that puts your information at risk, we'll aim to let you know.

6. Correcting or deleting your information

Most of your profile information can be corrected directly in My Account at any time. For anything you can't change yourself — including deleting your account entirely, or correcting something in your application history — please contact us using the details below and we'll action it.

7. Contact us

Email: privacy@teeny.app (placeholder — to be replaced with a real, monitored inbox before launch)

If you have a question about this policy, or want to correct or delete your information, this is the place to start.
